The cute-as-a-button SanDisk Sansa Fuze MP3 Player

The SanDisk Sansa Fuze is a tiny little MP3/MP4 player that is being sold in 2,4, and 8GB models and features a number of exciting features. While bound to suffer lots of comparison to the iPod Nano and other small MP3 players, it really is cute and inexpensive enough to stand on its own.

The design team working on the Fuze have done really well, although they probably wont get any prizes for interface innovation any time soon. There is a rotating front dial that most people I’m sure are quite familiar with, and four navigation buttons along with a central button for selection. If all this seems a little like deja-vu – well, it is. But with units starting out from only $70, who are we to complain.

The screen features a nice looking display, with a resolution of 220 x 176 that is large enough for video while you are on the go. While I certainly couldn’t see myself grabbing the popcorn and sitting down to watch a full-length movie on one, it does look sharp and colourful. Sound quality is fairly good, although audiophiles will be disappointed – as they often are – and the included headphones will definitely need to be upgraded at some stage.

Apple could face fines over iPod nano overheating problems

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Apple could face fines in Japan, if the company doesn’t provide explanation on overheating problems with first generation iPod Nano.

The company has until August 4th to respond. “Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry ordered Apple’s Japan unit to provide it with more information related to overheating problems with Apple Inc.’s first generation of iPod Nano music players by August 4.

The ministry is requesting Apple Japan to explain the cause of overheating, whether similar incidents have been reported domestically and abroad and what prevention and cautionary measures have been taken to counter such incidents, according to Seiji Shimagami, a ministry official who works in consumer product safety,” the report said.

”We’ve been asking they outline the preventive actions that have been taken for two years, but we question whether enough has been done so we took official action,” said Seiji Shimagami, a ministry official who works in consumer product safety.

New 7-inch iPad Mini with Retina Display expected January 2011

9to5 Mac, iLounge, and MacStories have all speculated that a new iPad will be out soon, possibly January 2011, and this time, it will feature the Retina Display of the iPhone 4 that’s known for its amazing pixel density.

This rumour also holds that the new iPad will be a smaller, 7-inch version of the current 10-inch iPad, and be called the iPad Mini. Guesses at what the resolution will be range from 1500x1920 to 2048x1536!

Other speculation holds that the 5th generation of the iPhone, the iPhone 5, will also hit shelves at around the same time as the iPad Mini, while all new iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and iPod Shuffle devices are expected earlier, as early as September this year.

While there is not too much evidence too support many of these claims, we’ve all been expected a new version of the iPad sometime soon, one that incorporates some of the new features the iPhone 4 brought, including dual cameras and possibly even stylus support, apart from the Retina Display.

Best Buy – Apple Released New 2010 iMac Powered Core i3, i5 and i7 – Full Review

Apple unveiled the new 2010 iMac line on July 27th. AppleInsider has published now a all-in-one review of all new iMac models.

There’s little doubt that 2010 is the year of the iPad and iPhone for Apple, with the company largely focusing on the new kids on the block. But the Mac isn’t entirely out of the picture. While the Mac business is a more mature product line than Apple’s mobile device lineup, it remains an important segment–both to Apple and the customers who use the Mac. And though the four new iMacs (two 21.5-inch models and two 27-inch models) released in July provide only small speed boosts, these latest desktops will make most customers very happy.

The report contrasts the performance benchmarks rankings of Cinebench 11 and Geekbench 2 to compare the the $1699 entry level dual core 3.2GHz Core i3 against the midrange $1999 quad core 2.8GHz Core i5 and the high end $2199 quad core 2.93GHz Core i7. Check out new prices and buy it from Amazon.

Standard equipment: The Intel Core 2 Duo processors found in the lower-end iMacs of the previous generation are gone. Apple now uses dual-core Intel Core i3 processors with 4MB of Level 3 cache in three of the new iMacs. The $1199 21.5-inch iMac has a 3.06GHz Core i3, while the $1499 21.5-inch iMac and the $1699 27-inch iMac both feature 3.2GHz Core i3 processors. The fourth iMac, a $1999 27-inch model, sports a 2.8GHz Core i5 quad-core processor with 8MB of level 3 cache.

Audiovox rolls out FLO TV-equipped DFL01 portable DVD player

FLO TV may not be the runaway success that Qualcomm hoped it would be, but it's been pushing into one new area after the next as of late, and you can now add portable DVD players to that list --

Audiovox has just rolled out the first such device with its DFL01 player. It was actually announced way back at CES in January,

but is now available to order for $199, which will get you a 7-inch widescreen display, three months of free FLO TV service (it'll run you $14.99 a month after that) and, of course, a built-in DVD player.

Somewhat curiously, it seems that HSN is the only retailer actually shipping the device right now, but it's said to be "coming soon" to Best Buy as well.
