HTC Sense web services for Desire HD and Z go live

Alongside the new Desire HD and Desire Z handsets, HTC last month also revealed a new online suite of web services to accompany their latest Android smartphones. Tying into the Sense UI, HTCSense.com has now gone live, allowing Z and HD owners to tinker with their phones remotely.

Plenty of nifty security and cloud-based features can be accessed through HTCSense.com. Data stored on the phones can be erased or transferred to cloud storage, SMS messages can be synced and searched, a ringtone can be set to locate lost phones, GPS data can be used to track down stolen handsets and there's even a "self-destruct" button that bricks the phone should you know it's gone for good.

However the service is only compatible with the new Desire HD and Desire Z handsets. This may change, but no announcement concerning older handsets has yet been made.

HTC officially announce Desire Z and Desire HD

HTC’s 2010 London conference may have just kicked off, but 2 new handsets have already been unveiled: the HTC Desire Z (T-Mobile G2) and my personal favourite, the HTC Desire HD.

The HTC Desire Z has has been announced as we expected, as the UK’s version of the T-Mobile G2. The handset brings with it all the features we had hoped for, including: Android 2.2 OS, an 800MHz Qualcomm 7230 processor, a 3.7 inch QVGA touchscreen, full QWERTY keypad and 5MP camera complete with autofocus and flash. We can also expect 4GB of internal memory, alongside a microSD slot for expansion. HTC have also announced that the handset will launch on Vodafone in October.

The HTC Desire HD may have been one of HTC’s worst kept secrets but it certainly seems the most impressive of their announcements, with the company claiming “It’s the best of what we have done packaged into one handset’. The new smartphone is set to feature a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Android 2.2 OS and a massive 4.3 inch QVGA touchscreen. We can also expect an impressive 8MP camera complete with dual LED flash, HD video recorder and microSD slot to expand its 4G of internal memory. The handset proves the perfect upgrade from the HTC Desire, with its improved camera, larger screen and bags of new features. The HTC Desire HD is also set to launch on Vodafone next month.

Alongside the unveiling of 2 new handsets, HTC have also announced they will be launching HTC Sense 2.0, an update to their customized user interface for devices powered by Android. The upgrade to Sense brings with it a wealth to new features of HTC smartphones. These will include: Quick Start, improved FriendStream, Helicopter view in the web browser, Flash 10.1 support and Maps Cache, for use of the service offline. The update will also bring with it an online portal, which users can access to ring your phone if lost, remotely wipe your handset and even post a message to your own phone is misplaced. Very cool. This service will be available on both the HTC Desire Z and the Desire HD.
