Rumor: PSP2 will have Holiday 2011 Launch

Ok, we’ve covered speculation, romors and anonymouse sources spouting the details of Sony’s follow-on handheld gaming system for two years now. Guess what? VG247 has a new “mysterious insider” reporting the existence of the mythical hardware. The source claims that the hardware is scheduled for fall 2011 retail release, so it makes sense that we’d hear something at GDC or E3 next year.

Here’s what we officially know:

* Sony makes video game systems
* Developers need hardware specs to design launch games for new systems
* Sony says it has no interest in handheld 3d

Sony will not confirm or deny the existence of the mythical PSP2.

PSP 2 “late next year”

Sources have told gaming news site, VG247, that the PSP 2 will be released “late next year.”

A British source familiar with the matter told the site, “we’ve been told it’s coming in late 2011.”

Not much is known about the machine, although there have been previous rumours of it’s existence, with Netherrealm Studios admitting it has a dev kit , while last month Develop reported numerous developers were creating content for PSP2, as Sony aims for a “significant launch window line-up”.

VG247 says they PSP 2 has a forward-facing and backward-facing camera, and will come with both touch-screen and physical controls.

Expect the PSP 2 to be officially revealed around E3 time next year.

Sony PSP2 by Christmas 2011?

Sony has been extremely tight-lipped about it, but that hasn’t stopped internet rumours about the device flying around at great speed – and now there’s even an unconfirmed launch date.

‘We’ve been told it’s coming in late 2011,’ an industry insider told VG247 yesterday.

On top of this, we don't know very much, but what intel we've garned is quite tantilising. We think the PSP2 will come with forward and backward-facing cameras, touch-screen and physical controls, be powered by a quad-core cell processor, but won't have 3D capability.

We also know that Mortal Kombat producer Shaun Himmerick has had his hands on one.

In an interview with website IndustryGames, the NetherRealm Studios’ chief talked about the PSP2 in a peculiarly offhand manner, apparently forgetting that it hasn't yet been announced by Sony.

'We’re not launching day one on all consoles like that,' he said when asked about what formats the new Mortal Kombat would be on. 'We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we’re looking at the engine, like what can it support. Always a big thing for us is the performance.

'We don’t have a 3DS system in house yet, but we’re looking to get one, and we’ll certainly look at what its power is.'

You can expect the PSP2 to be formally announced at next year’s E3, which takes place in June.

Sony PSP2 release date seems set for Christmas 2011: Gaming world continues its wait!

n what is no doubt the most anticipated piece of news that could soon hit the gaming domain is the official statement on the release date of PSP2 and exactly what goodies it will come with when it does indeed hit shelves. So this latest piece of news is indeed huge as sources indicate a 2011 Christmas release for the PSP2 handheld and that seems more believable than ever before.

Unless Sony themselves come out and categorically deny the date (which seems unlikely) it would be safe to assume that the news doing rounds indeed is rather true. After many such earlier rumours on if indeed a PSP2 is in work, we now do know that it is surely on its way and a pre-festive season next year seems both possible and profitable!

Sony will be planning this endlessly as such a release will give them both time to fine tune PSP2 and also help elevate it further when it comes to initial sales with all the shopping hoopla surrounding festive sales. Reports also state that PSP2 will have dual camera with one in the front, making it almost certain that it will have phone features and also added will be touchscreen controls at the back.

Now with all the hype we just hope PSP2 will live up to its billing. What do you think?

LG E900 (aka Optimus 7) finds its official press pictures unofficially leaked

We love a nice pre-release leak as much as the next tech blog, but come on, aren't you starting to feel sorry for these Windows Phone 7 guys? By the time Steve Ballmer takes the New York stage on Monday, we'll be more familiar with the stuff he'll be showing off than the big Microsoft boss himself. Today, LG's Optimus 7 handset has suffered the only indignity left, after being videoed, pictured, and handled many a time -- it's had its official press shots unleashed unto the world. It'd be hard for them to tell us anything we don't already know, but at least they're nice and neat. More at the source link.
