Logitech Preview: Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K80, HD Pro Webcam C910 and Wireless Speaker Z515

Power Gig's full-size, handmade guitar / controller now on sale for $250

Ah, ha! There it is! Way back in March, we had a sit-down with folks from Seven45 Studios about their plans for Power Gig: Rise of the SixString (for PS3 and Xbox 360), focusing mainly on how they intended to rival the Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises from a peripheral standpoint.

The six string guitar accessory that ships with the game bundle today is already leaps and bounds better than what RB3 is packin', but an instrument we were keenly interested in at GDC was also one we couldn't photograph at the time. The company made clear that it was looking at releasing a real-deal, bona fide guitar in the future -- a full-size First Act axe that could be used with the game or with a legitimate amplifier.

Now, that limited edition piece is on sale for both of the aforesaid consoles, boasting a single cutaway basswood body, humbucking pickup, and a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. Each one is available for $249.99, but there's no telling how many will be produced. We'd also prefer to see these in larger music shops in order to give consumers an idea of the fit, finish, feel and sound, but those into taking chances can get one headed their way as we speak.

AMD launches Radeon HD 6850 and 6870

The graphics chip maker AMD, formerly known as ATI, has released its Radeon HD 6850 and 6870 cards.

Designwise they are about the same as the outgoing 5850 but are considerably cheaper thanks to a shift in architecture.

You can pick up the 6850 for $179 and the 6870 for $239. The beasts are more power efficient, particularly when they are not doing anything.

AMD tells us that it has a performance edge of as much as 30 percent over the GeForce GTX 460.

The chips use DirectX 11 (OpenGL 4.0) graphics and general-purpose DirectCompute or OpenCL. However there are some new ideas including a new morphological antialiasing and improved anisotropic filtering.

Under the bonnet is all the hardware tessellation you can poke a stick at, making it easier to reduce detail for distant objects. The universal video decoder has been sped up to ease the stress on the main processor when you watch HD content.

Most boards will be ready for multi-monitor viewing with dual DVI ports, dual Mini DisplayPorts and an HDMI connector.

Both cards have a 256-bit memory bus and 1GB of GDDR5 RAM. What makes the difference is the number and speed of processing units. The 6850 has 960 stream effects processors, 48 texture units and a 775MHz core clock. A 6870 scales up to 1,120 stream processors, 56 texture units and a 900MHz clock rate.

The cards should already be in the shops. Windows users can choose between boards from Asus, Sapphire, MSI, Diamond, Gigabyte, and XFX.

We are expecting to see a few higher end boards out soon.

AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 teased ahead of Oct 22 launch

AMD has released teaser photos of its upcoming Radeon HD 6800-series graphics card, which the company claims will see an official reveal on Friday. According to ExtremeTech, the new cards – previously known as “Northern Islands” – will be the AMD Radeon HD 6870 and AMD Radeon HD 6850; however AMD is playing coy with specifications.

That means all we have to go on are the photos of the reference cards themselves, which each have two DVI outputs, one full-size HDMI out and two Mini DisplayPort jacks for a total of five outputs. The only other connectivity shown on the dual-width cards are the power connectors: a single six-pin port on the HD 6850 and two on the HD 6870.

The other point of note is the naming, with the 6800-series the first to lose the long-standing ATI dual-branding. We’ll be keeping an eye out for these on October 22nd.

AMD Radeon HD 6870 & 6850 Graphics Cards Debut

Notice anything different in that Radeon graphics logo kicking back off to the left here? If not, you weren't paying attention, so forty lashes for you with a bump-mapped, specular lit, highly tesselated wet noodle. Though AMD may have finally decided to do away with their ATI branding so many years after the acquisition, you can rest assured the AMD Radeon team still has an ATI power plant driving their muscle car graphics division. And it's safe to say that power plant is firing on all cylinders these days, with all the chatter and buzz we've been serving up here based on the company's upcoming releases and embargo lifts. Earlier this week we confirmed the model naming and unveiled images of AMD's next generation Radeon HD 6800 series graphics products. Today we're able to bring you details of this latest incarnation of Radeon graphics, as well as a full suite of performance metrics.

The previous Radeon family of GPU architectures had a decidedly green twist to their codename convention, with botanical designations like "Redwood", "Cedar" and "Juniper." This time around we're still on an earthly track but we're headed to the tropics for the colder winter months, with codenames like "Barts", "Cayman" and "Antilles." Ahh, fresh air, sunshine; pass the tanning butter. Actually, with products like the new Radeon HD 6870 and Radeon HD 6850 rolling into retail this holiday season, you might be spending a bit less time outdoors but hey, umbrella drinks are still allowed.

Stay with us as we take a stroll through what AMD affectionately calls Barts, or short for St. Barts, where the trade winds of the Caribbean Sea blow and 3D graphics cards shred pixels like sunburned surfer dudes heading in for a rad air drop.

HTC Knight surfaces for Sprint with Android and a sliding hinge of some sort?

What do we know about the picture above? Not much more than meets the eye -- this alleged HTC Knight is for Sprint and navigates Android using capacitive touchscreen keys. We do get a little more detail from the source of the image, who gave XDA-developers an XML file that mentions users should not "slide screen in/out" during activation. That certainly suggests that we're looking at a slider, but not necessarily a physical QWERTY keyboard -- after all, a very similar-looking HTC device recently appeared sporting a slide-out speaker bar.

Viewsonic VX2258wm 22-inch multitouch display hits stores in Europe

It looks like the folks at Viewsonic never got the memo that people don't want touchscreen displays on devices that don't lay flat. (Maybe Steve forgot to CC 'em?) That, or maybe they just have a rebellious streak -- which we can certainly respect. Either way, the company has just announced the VX2258wm, a 22-inch monitor that uses Infrared Optical Imaging to bring Windows-certified multitouch to the table (er, desk). And that, alongside 1080p HD resolution, ClearMotiv II Technology, a 5ms response time, a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and support for HBDP (High Bandwidth Digital Protection) Blu-ray devices, sounds pretty good to us! Available now in Europe for £189 (roughly $300). PR after the break.
