Lenovo IdeaPad U160 Fast Ultraportable Notebook Full Review

Lenovo IdeaPad U160 is a system equipped with an Intel Core i7 and therefore more powerful than most laptops of this type. IdeaPad U160 ultraportable notebook includes a cost-effective dual-core version of Intel Core i7-640UM (32 nm, 18 W TDP), which operates at a frequency of 1.2 GHz.

This course supports HyperThreading processor (SMT), manages to simultaneously handle up to four threads simultaneously.

HP Pavilion dv6-3030TX - Core i5 allrounder notebook

At $1099 the HP Pavilion dv6-3030TX is a fine allrounder notebook. The Intel Core i5-540M processor is one of the fastest Intel Core i5 processors available, which overall makes it one of the fastest processors on the market.

On the graphics side, the Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics processor is one of ATI’s better offerings if not the absolute fastest. Games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on medium settings won’t stress this notebook, and neither will video editing.

Movies, music, large photo libraries, and more mundane stuff like handling large databases are all well within this notebook’s grasp. The bonus Norton internet security software is a decent extra.

It’s not let down by the other specs, which include a 640GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, and a 15.6in (1366x768 resolution) screen. At 2.45kg it’s not very portable, and it’s physically brawny. 36mm thickness, 308mm depth,

and 378mm width are roughly average for this kind of notebook. It may not be an entertainment notebook due to the lack of a Blu-Ray reader or TV tuner, but it’s still a very potent allrounder notebook. For $1099 you’re getting a great notebook for a great price.

Eurocom Optimus-equipped B7110 FOX Gaming Notebooks Debut

System-builder Eurocom has always provided a good range of laptops for gamers-on-the-go. With the release of the new Optimus-powered FOX series, though, the company is doing its best to make the notebooks go just a little bit further.

The latest mobile PCs come in 15.6in and 17.3in flavours and both feature an impressive 1,920x1,080px screen. Crunching the numbers are a range of Intel's mobile dual-core CPUs, from the lowly 2.13GHz Core i3 330M all the way through to the 2.66GHz Core i7 620M. While all of the available processors have graphics-cores built in, it's the discrete NVIDIA GPU that will catch most gamers' eyes.

Each model comes equipped with a GeForce GT 330M 1GB GPU, which should push enough pixels to handle most modern games at decent settings. Thankfully, the FOX laptops also feature NVIDIA's Optimus graphics-switching technology. The proprietary tech can deactivate the discrete GPU and rely on the integrated graphics to increase battery life, and then automatically spin it back up whenever necessary.

Harley-Davidson sells MV Agusta

Harley-Davidson sold its MV Agusta motorcycle subsidiary to its former owner, who quickly proclaimed that the niche brand is all-Italian once again.

How hot is this brand? Brad Pitt reportedly just gave an Agusta to wife Angelina Jolie as a 35th birthday present, Autoevolution reports. Jolie, now starring in the spy movie Salt, and Pitt are avid motorcycle riders. Agusta has long made some of the hottest racing bikes on the planet, like that 2001 model pictured above.

Harley said yesterday it sold the brand to Claudio Castiglioni, who had remained chairman of the brand since it has been sold to Harley in 2008. The Milwaukee-based company said it was jettisoning the brand because it wants to focus more on the core Harley-Davidison label.

"MV Agusta is a proud brand and we wish Mr. Castiglioni and the company's employees well," said Harley-Davidson President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Wandell. "Our decision to divest MV Agusta reflects our strategy to focus our efforts and our investment on the Harley-Davidson brand, as we believe this provides an optimal path to long-term growth."

The source strongly expects the press conference to be held on the coming Monday or Tuesday [August 16, 17].

As we have found out earlier, the new iPod Touch will carry a front-facing camera, and additionally a rear lens [much like the iPhone 3G], but with flash and gyroscope.

The source also tells that the iPad is scheduled for the iOS 4.1 update in August itself, which looks imminent.

Furthermore, it looks like Apple is planning to separate the iPod Touch which is the only iPod running iOS on it, from the rest of the iPod line-up classic iPod, iPod nano and shuffle, which are expected to get their updates sometime in September.

Apple ordered to replace batteries for iPod nanos in Japan

Remember when we brought you the breaking story of the iPod nano being a fire hazard in Japan late last month?

Well, it seems that Japan's Trade Ministry has just issued an order to Apple's Japan unit to offer a replacement battery to iPod nano owners who are worried about their portable media player catching fire.

According to Apple, the fire hazard issue has been traced to a solitary battery supplier, so it would seem that all's well that ends well. This is a classic case of prevention being better than the cure itself, wouldn’t you say so?

iPod Nano music players may overheat says Japanese government

The iPod Nano music device has come under a warning in Japan after it was found that some of the older models may overheat.

The Japanese government has asked Apple Inc to post prominent notices on its website warning that there have already been cases of batteries overheating in first-generation iPod Nano machines.

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry reported that models sold in 2005 and 2006 had been warped by heat which had caused minor burns when people touched them.

The ministry also said no serious injuries or damage had been reported.

A notice for a battery replacement was posted late last year on Apple Japan's website but the Japanese government complained consumers were finding it difficult to access the information.

Apple's iPod brings not only music for UK, traffic accidents too

Automobile Association of Great Britain(AA) had got a number of reports of motorists so plugged in to music in their cars that they drive inattentively, the newspaper said .

What's worse, even pedestrians sometimes contend with passing cars while checking their emails.

Pedestrian inattention could be the cause of 17 collisions a day and that crashes of this kind have increased 5% in the last year, according to the AA's research.

"Too many people are suffering from so-called 'iPod oblivion'," AA president Edmund King was cited as saying.

''We can't stop the march of technology but we need to halt the 'iPod pedestrian, cycle and driver zombies'," King added.
