At $1099 the HP Pavilion dv6-3030TX is a fine allrounder notebook. The Intel Core i5-540M processor is one of the fastest Intel Core i5 processors available, which overall makes it one of the fastest processors on the market.
On the graphics side, the Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics processor is one of ATI’s better offerings if not the absolute fastest. Games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on medium settings won’t stress this notebook, and neither will video editing.
Movies, music, large photo libraries, and more mundane stuff like handling large databases are all well within this notebook’s grasp. The bonus Norton internet security software is a decent extra.
It’s not let down by the other specs, which include a 640GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, and a 15.6in (1366x768 resolution) screen. At 2.45kg it’s not very portable, and it’s physically brawny. 36mm thickness, 308mm depth,
and 378mm width are roughly average for this kind of notebook. It may not be an entertainment notebook due to the lack of a Blu-Ray reader or TV tuner, but it’s still a very potent allrounder notebook. For $1099 you’re getting a great notebook for a great price.
