Nokia has announced Symbian^1 (S60 5th Edition) running touchscreen smartphone Nokia C5-03 for the budget conscious folks. New Nokia C5-03 sports a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen display that is good enough to enjoy multimedia and browse the mobile web. Do not confuse Nokia C5-03 with the mid-range Nokia C5 that was launched back in July.
The phone's 3.2-inch resistive LCD touchscreen display supports 360x240 pixel resolution and has 24-bit color depth. This means that the content and multimedia would look decent but the resistive touchscreen might bug you a bit. You'll be able to type in text with full screen QWERTY keyboard and the phone will also support handwriting recognition.
Shutterbugs can enjoy the 5 megapixel camera that offers 4x digital zoom and has f/2.4 aperture. You can also record video in 640x480 resolution at 15 frames per second in H.263 or MPEG-4 formats. Yes, the only thing missing here is a flash.
Under the hood lies 600MHz ARM11 microarchitecture based processor with 128MB SDRAM and 256MB ROM memory. Together, all three are good enough to run the Symbian^1 (S60 5th Edition) operating system smoothly. However, users will get a mere 40MB onboard memory storage but a 2GB microSD card will be bundled with the phone. Plus, you can add up to 16GB microSD card via expansion slot.
Nokia C5-03 will support quadband GSM/EDGE and triband WCDMA networks. Along with that, the phone will also have HSDPA Cat9 offering up to 10.2Mbps download speed and HSUPA Cat5 offering up 2.0 Mbps upload speeds. Nokia has also added Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for connecting it over WLAN. Bluetooth 2.0+EDR will enable file transfers from your Nokia C5-03 to other compatible handset or computer.
Music aficionados can enjoy their favorite music as well as videos in different audio and video formals by connecting headphones through the 3.5 mm audio port. This phone will have Stereo FM Radio.
One can find latest free version of Ovi Maps hands-free navigation that can be used with the digital compass and location services will be supported by the built-in Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) feature. Nokia has also added Ovi Mail and Ovi Store access for users.
Packing a 1000 mAh battery, Nokia C5-03 promises a talk time of up 11.5hours on GSM networks, which is outstanding for a touchscreen phone in the mid-range segment. If you love watching videos then this phone will play your favorite videos for up to 7.5 hours and music for up to 35 hours, which is as much as the Apple iPod touch. Nokia will offer the C5-03 in Graphite Black, Lime Green, Petrol Blue and Aluminum Grey colors.
The new Nokia C5-03 will be launched worldwide by the end of this year for 170 EUROs (Rs. 10,570 approx.) excluding tax. Now, if it arrives in India for about Rs. 12,500 then it might compete with the Nokia C6 (NOT C6-01, mind it!).
