Google Android is catching up to Apple iOS for mobile web browsing

Google's Android OS is catching up to Apple's iOS in terms of the mobile web market, according to research firm Quantcast.

Apple is still dominating the competition with the iPhone, iPad and iTouch, accounting for 56 percent of mobile web activity, but has been steadily losing ground, dropping 11 percent compared to one year ago.

Android phones on the other hand, have gained steam, rising 17 percent over the past year to capture 25 percent of the United States' mobile web usage.

Apple's biggest advantage over the competition has been the iPad, but earlier this month, Samsung and Toshiba introduced tablets that will run the Android operating system. Archos also revealed it will be releasing five tablets of different sizes, all running Android.
