Lephone offers triple SIM mobile @Rs. 4,990

Lately the Indian consumer is spoilt for choice in the case of mobile phones. It is as if the ever increasing number of dual SIM mobiles, lined up by several phone makers -national and international- were not enough that now makers are coming up with triple SIM phones.

And the phone maker in question is Lephone. A new triple SIM (2GSM + 1CDMA) mobile phone, A10, has been launched in Indian market. The bar form mobile runs on Symbian operating system and is available at a price of Rs. 4,990.

The phone comes with a 2.2 inch display screen and a 3MP camera with flash light. The A10 is registered with genuine IMEI. Its 850mAh battery gives a talk time of 300 minutes and a stand by time of 150 hours.

Its multimedia features include MP3 playback, FM radio, and video recorder. Connectivity options of the phone comprise of Bluetooth, GPRS, WAP and USB connector. The 140 x 42 X 15.3mm sized phone has a quad frequency of GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800 and PCS1900.

The A10 supports multiple languages and comes with a pre-defined internal memory. However you have the option of increasing the memory. The phone comes with a 3D sound stereo speaker.

As these multi SIM mobile phones pack in many features and are available in a reasonable cost, they sure are a good bet for the Indian market. This is because the majority of Indian consumers who use these phones are from middle class and the features offered at these pricing suits their wallets.

New Xbox 360 Controller on the Way

Microsoft has debuted a new Xbox 360 wireless controller that features new analog sticks, and a D-Pad that rises. The controller is due on November 9 for $65.

Today on YouTube, Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb unveiled a new Xbox 360 controller, due out later this year. It isn’t exactly a radical change, but there are a few tweaks that should be for the better.

The biggest change will be to the often neglected D-pad. The D-pad has long been the red headed step child of the controller accessories. More or less shuffled to the second tier of controller functions, the once proud D-pad — which was always there, lovingly awaiting our thumb back in the old days of controllers — has since been relegated to the occasional secondary weapon toggle, weapons selection wheel if it is lucky, or even the lowly power switch for a flashlight.

The new changes to the Xbox360 controller hope to bring a little pride back into the D-pad, while making it more usable. With a twist, the D-pad will now rise up about a quarter of an inch. It might not seem like a mind blowing alteration- and, well, it isn’t- but fans of fighting games should appreciate the change, plus the pad might now factor more heavily into designers’ control schemes. Plus, who knows, this might be a renaissance for the D-pad, as more gamers switch back to it.

The new controller will also feature a deeper concave design on the analog sticks, and the color scheme on the buttons has been replaced with a monochrome look to match the silver and black colors.

The controller will be packaged with the play-and-charge rechargeable battery kit only, and it will retail for $64.99. Expect it in stores on November 9 (coincidentally the same day as Call of Duty: Black Ops is released).

Once it is released, expect all current Xbox 360 controllers to be replaced, once current stock is gone. It should be released in Europe in February, but no word on when to expect the new controllers as part of the Xbox 360 console bundle.

Mysterious Motorola Slider Makes Another, More In-Focus, Appearance

An extremely blurry picture of a Droid-eyed slider made the rounds a month or so back — so blurry, in fact, that I’m pretty sure they added blur in Photoshop. Well, some in-focus shots of the device have surfaced, and while it doesn’t appear to have outward Droid branding, it does have the familiar eye. Not a lot of information is available, unfortunately.

But I will say that it’s a nicer-looking slider device than the Blackberry Torch, which looks busy, chromey, and chubby in comparison. Who knows how they compare otherwise, but if i had to judge these books by their covers, the Motorola XT300 wins hands-down.

3rd Generation of Amazon Kindle Sold Out For Now

The third generation of Amazon Kindle, the most famous e-book reader software and the newly released in the world, is hitting the markets with significantly lower price than that offered by the iPad.

Although it has not been out for long but, according to the Company’s website, the product has been sold out. However, the Company is expected to provide the markets with a second shipment before the 17th of September.

The new Amazon Kindle is smaller in size than the previous Kindle models, and according to the costumers, it is ‘the best reading companion’.

The most benefit offered by this product is that it provides the user with the software along with the device itself. Since the launch of its first generation in 2007, Amazon Kindle has always been adding the easiest, yet the most efficient, technology to their device.

In 2007, although Sony supplied the market with a better looking and a generally more sophisticated e-book reader, Amazon Kindle provided a device that is easily accessible through the wireless internet connection, which resulted in the device enjoying a continuous and easy connection with the Amazon Online Store.

Currently, Amazon Kindle has a solid position among the e-book reader providers.

Clearwire Announces Rover Puck Mobile Hotspot, Pre-Paid 4G Service

The days of $60 per month mobile hotspots with two-year contracts are getting some serious competition. This time it’s in the form of a new mobile hotspot called the Rover Puck, which is being sold by Clearwire. The Rover Puck costs $149 and can support up to eight devices at a time. Unlimited pre-paid 4G service costs $50 per month, $20 per week or $5 per day. The Rover Puck only supports 4G, which means it won’t switch over to 3G in areas that aren’t well-covered by WiMax.

Rover, ClearWire’s pre-paid brand, will also offer a $99 USB modem.

Unlike smartphones, mobile hotspots aren’t used on a daily basis by most users, making them very expensive on a per-use basis. I’ve been very satisfied with my Sprint MiFi card, but I will probably swap it out for something that supports 4G and a more flexible payment plan in the coming months.

Clearwire Introduces Rover Pay-As-You-Go Service

Clearwire

Clearwire announced Rover, the company's first pay-as-you-go 4G mobile broadband service. With the new Rover service, the WiMAX carrier says it is targeting, "digitally addicted youth who refuse to settle for long-term contracts, overpriced internet service, or speeds slower than what they've become accustomed to at home."

If you're itching to get your hands on 4G service, Rover is available in all of Clearwire's 49 4G markets across the U.S. The service is also available at CLEAR stores, Best Buy stores and select independent wireless dealers in Houston and St. Louis.

"Simple, commitment-free wireless services are wildly popular with the Gen Y crowd, and Rover provides them with the first pay-as-you-go unlimited mobile internet offering at 4G speeds," said Mike Sievert, chief commercial officer for Clearwire. "We've built Rover from the ground up with products, pricing and features designed specifically to serve a younger market who knows how you get connected is just as important as where. Expanding our offers to meet this underserved segment is an important new business opportunity for Clearwire as we continue to extend our leadership in mobile broadband."

Not only will Rover let you surf the web without committing to a contract, but it will also let you share that broadband access with up to eight devices using the Rover Puck as your portable Wi-Fi hotspot. According to Clearwire, the Rover Puck supports mobile download speeds of three to six mbps, with bursts over 10 mbps using Clearwire's 4G network. The Rover Puck costs $149.99.

Clearwire is also offering the Rover Stick, a personal 4G USB modem that will connect a notebook, laptop or desktop to the Rover 4G Service. The Rover Stick costs $99.99 and is compatible with Mac and Windows.

The new service is available for $5/day, $20/week, or $50/month for unlimited 4G internet usage. New users will get two free days of service to try it out and there is a 14-day no-hassle return policy for any device purchases made on rover.com or in CLEAR stores.

Windows Phone-powered LG E900 spotted with Vodafone 360

Remember how the mobile tech world threw their arms up in frustration at the possibility that upcoming Windows Phone 7 mobile OS from Microsoft would not support copy/paste or HTML email? Right, well it turns out that Microsoft is not as short-sighted as some had believed. A new video has popped up online, showing the WP7 platform getting down with some good, old-fashioned HTML email. That’s right, folks, Windows Phone 7 will have fully functioning HTML email support.

The misconception that WinPho would not have be able to display HTML code in emails was initially brought to light by PocketNow. Today, we’re happy to tell you, dear reader, that the new generation of smartphones running Microsoft’s completely revamped mobile operating system will indeed play nice with any and all email that you throw at it. Since speculating that Microsoft may have left out a critical feature in their WP7 email client, the blog has clarified that their test build of Windows Phone 7 did not offer an option to download images in email, which made it seem like HTML email was a no-go for WP7.

The demo video you see here shows a prototype WinPho device running a newer build of Windows Phone 7. Notice that images are not automatically downloaded and displayed in emails – likely to thwart spammers, who often track image downloads to verify that a particular email address is valid and still alive. We like having the option to fight spammers, but that’s not what’s important. What’s important is that, once a WP7 user hits the link to download images, HTML emails will be displayed in all their media-heavy glory. You should also take note of the multi-touch pinch-zooming capabilities of the email client.

Windows Phone 7 seems to be getting better and better as time goes on. Especially since we last saw Microsoft’s public demonstrations of WP7.

Download Firefox for Mobile 2.0 Alpha 1 Free

Firefox for Mobile, also known as Fennec, is a neat little tool that comes from Mozilla, and it’s literally the smaller brother of Firefox. The first thing you will notice upon starting the browser is how small it is, compared to the big fonts and buttons. The interface is very compact and fluent, navigating through it on a phone is not a big hassle.

The first main window displays a list with your bookmarks and a few quick links at the bottom. At first, you won’t find any menus and toolbars, because when you first start the program you will see only a big address bar and a ‘Go’ button. Once you start browsing a page, the cool features of the browser will start to show.

First of, navigating through the web page is simple, all you need is a mouse, if you are on a computer of course. The pages can be panned in any direction by clicking in an empty space on a page, and to zoom in and out, all you need is the middle scroll button of the mouse.

If you pan the page to the left or right, two toolbar will appear on each side. The left toolbar contains the currently opened tabs, while the right toolbar has the navigation buttons and the bookmarking button. You will also find the configuration menu on the right toolbar, from where you can change some simple but important settings. One of the greatest features of Fennec is that it has add-ons, just like Firefox. Although the add-ons available for this little browser are not that many, they are enough to augment this little browser, and more are developed all the time.

Overall, the browser is excellent, but the PC version might feel a little basic if you are used to browsers like Firefox or Safari. However, in the category of simple browsers, Fennec is at the top of the market, and it can easily become your favorite mobile browser.

Fennec (Firefox) Mobile Browser for Android Now Available in Alpha

Mobile Browser for Android

Those waiting for Mozilla’s mobile browser on Android can now get downloading! Firefox Mobile, currently code-named Fennec, is available for Android, and updated for the Nokia N900. Some of the key features that might make you want this one over the already-excellent native Android browser is synchronization of history and bookmarks with desktop Firefox, add-on support, and the legendary Awesome Bar, which finds your website without having to launch into a Google search. Pinch to zoom is included, integration with multiple search engines lets you find a variety of information quickly, and a new contextual long-press menu helps you share pages easily.

Most of us have at least tried Firefox at some point, and its excellence as a desktop browser is largely undisputed. If they can bring to bear that same expertise to mobile, then the current leader in third-party mobile browsers, Opera, may have trouble keeping its lead. The desktop sync is a killer feature, and the add-on support which made Firefox such a huge success in the first place can potentially change our standards for mobile browsing overall.

Head over to Mozilla’s download page from your mobile browser to get started with Fennec – just keep in mind that only Android 2.0 and up is compatible.

Sierra Wireless first to support Telstra's dual-channel HSPA+ network with new USB modem and expanded wireless module lineup

Telstra Ultimate(TM) USB Modem by Sierra Wireless now available in Australia; new Sierra Wireless AirPrime(TM) HSPA+ embedded wireless modules introduced to support device manufacturers VANCOUVER, Aug. 30 /CNW/ - Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR; TSX: SW) today announced that it is supporting the launch of Telstra's first-in-the-world dual-channel HSPA+ network in Australia with some of the fastest modems the company has ever produced.

The Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 312U wireless USB modem, first demonstrated at Mobile World Congress in February, is now commercially available in Australia, marketed as the Telstra Ultimate(TM) USB modem. With it, Australians working at client locations, at airports, or on their commute home can access the Internet and online applications at speeds typically reserved for office environments.

Dual-channel HSPA+ doubles the speeds of current HSPA+ networks from a peak downlink of 21 megabits per second (Mbps) to 42 Mbps, at the same time improving network efficiency and providing a better experience for customers with more consistent network performance. Customers using a Telstra Ultimate USB modem in enabled coverage areas will experience real-world download speeds up to 20 Mbps.

"The new speeds have the potential to increase how and where our small and large business customers work - boosting productivity in the process," said Mike Wright, Executive Director, Telstra Networks & Access Technologies. "Our customers have told us that they want higher speed mobile broadband so they can work more flexibly outside of the office and we are delighted to offer them these new speeds."

In addition to announcing the commercial launch of the AirCard 312U, Sierra Wireless has introduced the AirPrime MC8801, as well as the AirPrime MC8704 and MC8705 intelligent embedded modules for HSPA+ networks, to support manufacturers incorporating wireless connectivity into a variety of devices, including notebook, netbook, and tablet computers; connected consumer electronics products like personal navigation devices; and home or enterprise-class routers.

"Once again, Telstra is leading the world in rolling out the latest HSPA+ technology, and we're thrilled to be the first to provide customers in Australia with products that enable them to take full advantage of the network's capabilities," said Jin Pak, Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific, for Sierra Wireless. "Being first with wireless USB modems benefits our embedded customers as well. Manufacturers looking to provide the capabilities of the new AirCard 312U inside their devices can be confident that Sierra Wireless embedded modules deliver a tested, reliable solution for the best possible performance."

The Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC8801 intelligent embedded module is designed to support HSPA+ Dual Channel networks and peak network downlink speeds of 42 Mbps. To provide a more cost-effective alternative for manufacturers that don't require the top speed, the new AirPrime MC8704 and MC8705 offer HSPA+ single channel support, with peak network downlink speed of 21 Mbps. The AirPrime MC8704 offers voice calling capability, while the MC8705 is targeted for data-centric devices that do not require voice support.

Samples of the AirPrime MC8801 and MC8705 are now available to customers for testing, with commercial shipments expected in the fourth quarter of this year. Samples of the AirPrime MC8704 are expected to be available early in 2011. With a substantial track record of working with network operators and manufacturing customers to integrate new wireless technologies quickly and reliably, Sierra Wireless offers the experience and expertise to simplify wireless integration and optimize time-to-market.

Professionals first for doubled Next G speeds

Telstra today unlocked significantly higher speeds on its Next G mobile broadband network. But consumers will have to wait a little longer to take advantage … with business and government customers first in line.

The telco has for some time been planning to switch on the higher speeds on its network, which utilise the so-called dual-channel technology available through the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA+) specification its network uses.

The network upgrades — in coalition with one of Telstra’s new Ultimate wireless USB modems will facilitate theoretical network speeds of up to 42Mbps, although in real-world conditions, the telco today said customers could expect real-world typical speeds of up to 20Mbps — compared to the previous up to 8Mbps speeds.

So far, Telstra has switched on the upgraded speeds only in selected areas – capital city central business districts, airports and selected other metropolitan hubs and more than 100 regional centres.

In total, Telstra Business group managing director Deena Shiff said the high-speed zones covered about 50 percent of the Australian population.

In addition, it’s only business and government customers that will be able to immediately buy one of just 2,000 Ultimate modems the company has in stock, with wider consumer availability to be unveiled later this year.

The modem can be bought outright for $299, or on a mobile broadband plan – for example, for nothing upfront on a $69 monthly plan over 24 months.

“Australians have been telling us they can’t afford to be tied to the desk all day, and these new speeds mean they can now access mobile broadband at speeds typically reserved for the office,” said Shiff.

“We are delighted to be the first in the world to offer these new blistering speeds on a national network.”

Telstra Launches Worlds Fastest Mobile Broadband Service

Australian Telco Telstra today launched what it calls “the world’s fastest national mobile broadband service,” boasting of real world download speeds up to 20Mbps.

Telstra, which already lays claim to the world’s fastest HSPA+ GSM Network – capable of up to 42Mbps down – has until today only sold a wireless modem capable of up to 21Mbps down.

With the launch of the “Telstra Ultimate USB” modem, Aussies can now take advantage of this new blistering speed across Australia’s capital city, CBDs and associated airports, selected metropolitan hubs and more than 100 regional centers.

Telstra business group managing director Deena Shiff said the high-speed zones “cover approximately 50% of the Australian population and match the areas of highest customer demand.”

Not everyone will be able to take advantage of it, however, with Ms Shiff adding “In other metropolitan and regional areas, the Telstra Ultimate USB Modem offers typical download speeds ranging from 550kbps up to 8Mbps, which is still significantly faster than Telstra’s mobile broadband competitors.”

The Telstra Ultimate USB is the world’s first commercial USB modem to use a new generation of mobile broadband technology called dual channel HSPA+.

The modem and enabling network technology was developed in collaboration with leading technology companies Ericsson, Qualcomm and Sierra Wireless.

Currently the modem is only available to enterprise customers with an initial inventory of 2000 devices. A more widespread launch to the rest of the unwashed masses is due later this year.

The Telstra Ultimate USB can also be purchased in conjunction with a range of mobile broadband plans including for the princely sum of $0 upfront with a $69 plan over 24 months (minimum total cost $1,656) or, from 5 October, outright for $299.

It is available from 25 August through Telstra Business and Telstra Enterprise & Government account managers.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100, Milestone XT720 Coming to Wind Mobile?

Rumour has it Canadian carrier Wind Mobile will be picking up the BlackBerry 9100 and the Motorola Milestone (a.k.a. Motoroi) XT720. These would mark Wind’s second BlackBerry and Android phone, preceded by the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and the Huawei U8100, respectively.

Aside from size and form factor, the BlackBerry 9100 is mostly equivalent to the 9700: it has Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, an HVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, 256 MB of memory, and a 624 MHz processor. The only real difference spec-wise is that Pearl 3G handles Wi-Fi 802.11 n, which from my experience isn’t that big of a leap from g. Overall, it’s nice little device - check out our review for the full rundown.

The Motorola XT720 will be Wind’s highest-end device, having an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording, 3.7″ 480 x 854 touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G supporting up to 10.2 Mbps, and running Android 2.1. The XT720 has been available across Europe and on Cincinnati Bell for awhile now, but it looks like Wind will be the first Canadian carrier to get it. We had some hands-on time with the XT720 shortly after it had made its Korea debut – take a look at the video over here.

Keep an eye on the Wind Mobile online store for these two phones – the Pearl 3G should be showing up in the next couple of days for $320, with the XT720 coming shortly after.

Rumor: Wind Mobile Releasing BlackBerry Pearl 9100 for $320?

Rumor has it that Wind Mobile in Canada might be the first or one of the first to get it for $320.

No word yet on when exactly it will be released but the poster on Howard Forums claims it will be coming sometime in the next few days…

Anybody else waiting for carriers in the US and RIM to finally release the 9100? I just don’t know what is taking so long since the device was announced at WES in April!

Canadian cellular provider Wind Mobile is supposed to be picking up the Motorola Milestone XT720,

which was only available in Europe and more recently on Cincinnati Bell in the US. Currently, Wind only offers

the Huawei 8100, an entry level Android phone, and looks to be beefing up their line up of Android phones with this inclusion.

The exact date that the phone will be available is yet to be released, but is expected to be available in a few short weeks.

Ubisoft sides with Nintendo 3DS over Move and Kinect

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have yet launched their new motion control systems – Move and Kinect respectively – but one major videogame publisher has already weighed in with which platform it thinks will win the impending battle of new gameplay technology... siding firmly with the Nintendo 3DS.

Specifically, while Ubisoft's European managing director Alain Corre believes the 3DS has an extremely bright future ahead of it, he thinks the years ahead will probably not be so bright for Move or Kinect.

“[Move and Kinect] are good extensions and will certainly ensure that some new casual buyers are secured, which is good for Microsoft and Sony since the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 do not address this target group yet,” he offered in a translated PlanetDS.de report.

However, when asked whether Nintendo's rivals have created motion-control platforms capable of extending the longevity of their respective hardware platforms, Corre answered by simply saying: “I think not.”

Ubisoft's viewpoints regarding the future of gaming follow on from similar praise legendary game developer Warren Spector (Epic Mickey, Deus Ex) lavished upon Nintendo's glasses-free stereoscopic 3D console technology during a recent Gamescom chat with Game Informer.

LG's 31-inch OLED prototype to slice through IFA

OLED's failure to do anything for the mainstream so far outside of phone and camera displays is only bittersweet: sure, we don't have millimeter thick TVs yet, but LCD has gotten slim enough that it hardly matters. So, in keeping with tradition, LG has stolen its own OLED thunder today. In line with earlier rumors, it will be showing off a 0.11-inch thick 31-inch 3D OLED display prototype at IFA this week, but that poor little OLED-that-would will be sharing a booth with a ready for retail 0.35-inch thick LCD that comes in big people sizes. Despite our undying affection for OLED, we know which one we'll be (theoretically) taking home in the windowless van we (theoretically) plan on parking out behind the Messe Berlin.

LG GT540 Optimus Android Mobile Phone

LG is gearing up to launch the first of their Optimus range of Android powered handsets in India. Part of the perks of my job is that I sometimes get a chance to give you guys a sneak peak at handsets that aren’t officially launched in the country and in this case it’s the GT540.

Unfortunately I can’t give you a detailed review as I was sent a prototype that's still riddled with bugs. In lieu of that, here’s a quick preview of device before it hits the shelves officially.

Form Factor

It’s a slim, sleek handset with curvy lines and a slick brush-metal like finish. Dressed all in black, it’s hard not to notice that it’s a good looking device. Here’s the first mistake LG made though – the GT540 is equipped with a 3 inch resistive touchscreen that will require you to use a stylus for a few things.

An even bigger issue is that the stylus is not tethered, nor does it come with a built-in slot, you’re it’s more than likely you’ll misplace it in the first week. Using anAndroid phone with a stylus is just not a good thing. A couple of touch sensitive keys are placed under the display with button for taking and ending calls and a Home key in the center.

New iPod Nano To Feature Smaller Form Factor, Touchscreen Display?

New iPod Nano

Apple [AAPL] is holding a special event tomorrow, where the focus is on music, so this means new iPods, and we can expect to see a refreshed iPod Touch, possibly with a camera, as well as a new iPod Nano.

Apple Insider are reporting that the next generation iPod Nano, will feature a completely new design and a smaller form factor, and will probably come with a touchscreen display.

Details have appeared around the web of a range of accessories for the new iPod Nano, including cases and screen protectors, and the photo above gives us an idea of what the new iPod Nano may look like.

This would tie in with the previous mystery touchscreen that we saw that features a similar design to the screen of the iPod on the photo above.

Samsung's Galaxy S series that is expected to pose a threat to Apple's iphone is currently being sold by just two suppliers. This includes AT&T and T-Mobile where the former ships Galaxy S Captivate and the later carries Galaxy S Vibrant. Both of these models went on sale in mid July this year.

However Sprint and Verizon Wireless will start off selling their variants (Epic 4G and Fascinate, respectively) very soon while U. S. Cellular and Cellular South will follow it later on.

The reason for this is that scoring sales of one million Galaxy S phones is a tedious task for the Korean chaebol and Android in general. As all the four variants of Galaxy S are highly sophisticated gadgets especially with features like a four-inch AMOLED displays and 1GHz Hummingbird processors on board.

This move by the company of harping on multiple carriers gives Samsung Mobile the opportunity to cater to a wider range of consumers.

Many competitors of Samsung have lost business because of the poor availability of devices in the past few weeks. This includes bigwigs like Motorola and HTC. Moreover with the high demand for Android based phones, this proves as a win-win situation for the company also.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia range is the “official mobile handset of the UEFA Champions League”

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia

Looks like we’ll be seeing fingers breakdancing around the place during the adverts in the football for the remainder of the season, as Sony Ericsson has just revealed that its Xperia smartphone range is the “official” smartphone of the UEFA Champions League.

We wouldn’t fancy being the poor PR person who has to teach Wayne Rooney how to synchronise his Exchange account for a possible forthcoming photo opportunity…

The ad will introduce “a new mobile application developed in conjunction with UEFA.com” which will presumably be exclusive to SE handsets. Here’s the full press release. WARNING: It uses the word “leverage”. It’s a serious business one, this. We’ve clearly been added to the grown-up mailing list.

dual sim case for iphone 4 lets you switch networks on the fly

iphone 4 lets you switch networks

Say you’re sick of AT&T. Assuming you’ve jailbroken your iPhone 4, you can now bounce between two cell networks of your choice courtesy of this unusual case.

The iPhone 4 Dual SIM Adapter case comes with a ribbon cable that pops into your iPhone’s SIM slot, splitting it into two card slots.

Then, snap the clear case around your phone to keep the SIM cards neat and tidy. According to the instructions, you just need to go into the phone settings and choose the SIM of your choice and wait 1 to 2 minutes for the network to connect. That’s it.

You can get your hands on the iPhone 4 Dual SIM Adapter case over at USBfever for $28.99 (USD).

A Dual SIM Adapter Case For iPhone 4 To Toggle Networks

iPhone 4 To Toggle Networks

Are you the kind who has to constantly toggle between two networks on your unlocked iPhone 4? USBFever has launched a new adapter case that will make it easy to hop networks with their new Dual SIM adapter case. The case comes with a slot for you to house two SIM cards so that you may no longer worry about dropping or losing your tiny SIMs while on travel.

The dual SIM adapter case is available at a price of $30 and does not require you to cut or modify your SIM card sizes. One thing I am not convinced about is the look. The case, along with the strap to connect the SIM to the phone may not retain the native aesthetic looks on your iPhone. Nevertheless, if you are willing to give it a try, go ahead.

Acer Aspire One D255 netbook now on sale

Acer has put up for sale its Aspire One D255 netbook which is the first model of its kind to hit the US, and HSN.com (Home Shopping Network) will be the retailer who will have the honor of carrying the device.

Going for $399 a pop in a quartet of color choices (red, black, aquamarine and sandstone), they will all share the same innards regardless of its exterior color. We're talking about the new 1.5GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core processor, 1GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a 10.1-inch display at 1024 x 600 resolution, coupled with an Intel GMA 3150 graphics chipset and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Expect other dual core Atom processors to hit the market from various netbook manufacturers pretty soon, as they surely can't let Acer corner the market, eh?

For $400 users also receive a 1.5GHz N550 dual-core processor, that’s in comparison to the 1.66GHz single-core processor offered on their other netbook options in the Aspire lineup.

Users can pick up the netbook in four colors at this time: blue, red, black and brown.

Samsung 90 and 30 Series Blend LCD Monitor and HDTV

Samsung 90 and 30 Series Blend LCDSamsung is looking to tap into that going-back-to-school dorm room crowd (or maybe that “cramped in a spare bedroom after graduation” crowd) with its new 90 series and 30 series of LCD monitors that serve as both HDTVs and LCD computer displays. Ranging from 21.5 to 24 inches, the 30 and 90 display series boast full 1080p resolution, HDMI input, and HDTV tuners—and they’re perfectly happy supplying TV as a picture-in-picture display while folks work on their computer desktops.

“People are looking to do more in smaller areas and multi-function monitors are a great way to maximize the functionality of a single device,” said Samsung Enterprise Business Division director of display marketing Young Bae, in a statement. “Samsung continues to expand our multi-function offerings and these two new lines—the 30 and 90 series—provide a new range of options and value for our customers.”

The 90-series display measures 24 inches and features Samsung’s Touch of Color Mystic Brown finish; it also boasts a full HD 1,920 by 1,080 pixel resolution, two HDMI inputs (along with D-sub, DVI, component, CVBS, and TV input), a 5 ms response time, a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 250 cd/m&exp2; of brightness, and two built-in speakers with 5 watt amps. The unit also sports optical audio output, audio in, and headphone output. Meanwhile, the 30 series ranges from 21.5 inches to 24 inches, has a 70,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, built-in speakers with a 3 watt amp, 300 cd/m&exp2; of brightness, and those same two HDMI inputs, plus component, TV tuner, and VGA input. Both series ship with remote controls.

Samsung says 30 series will be available in September, ranging from $269.99 to $329.99 depending on size; the 90 series will land in September for a suggested price of $419.99.

iPhone, EVO 4G and others among the stars of the Summer of Smart Phones

If you follow tech headlines, you would swear this was the Summer of Smart Phones.

While many high-profile movies have gone bust at the box office this season, the smart-phone hits seem to keep coming, with a new, high-profile, do-it-all mobile device every few weeks. Apple's iPhone 4 got most of the headlines, but Sprint's EVO 4G phone got its share of attention, as have Verizon's Droid X and others. Smart phones are attractive to buyers because they do much more than send text messages or make phone calls - many of them can shoot high-definition video, browse the Web with full-featured browsers and run thousands of different apps (programs you can download to the phone wirelessly, many of them free).

If you feel left out of the technological loop, don't worry: The number of choices (not even counting all the calling and data plans) is daunting even to tech experts. But smart phones are clearly taking over: The Nielsen Co. estimates that smart phones will account for a third of phones by the end of this year and will overtake non-smart phones by the end of 2011.

In this chart, we cover some of the summer's most high-profile smart phones, but even newer phones keep coming. If you're considering buying, you'll also have Dell's Aero, the Droid 2 (a smaller version of the Droid X with a physical keyboard), Samsung's Epic 4G on Sprint and Captivate on AT&T, and others to choose from. (These phones were released too late for us to include in our chart, G3.)

The question I get asked most often as a tech writer about practically any smart phone is, "Is it better than the iPhone?" The iPhone 4 certainly has the most passionate fans and the most widespread appeal. About 3 million of them were sold in the first few weeks after it launched in late June. It's typically the phone I recommend to smart phone buyers if they're willing to commit to AT&T and to deal with some of the voice call issues the iPhone is plagued with.

If the iPhone 4 isn't for you, there are plenty of other choices, all with varying strengths and weaknesses. Turn to page G3 for a comparison of the iPhone 4 and several competitors, all released this summer.

ogallaga@statesman.com; 445-3672

Apple iPhone 4

Price (with two-year contract): $199 / $299 depending on memory storage size.
Manufacturer: Apple.

Screen size:3.5 inches.

Cameras: 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, can shoot HD video. VGA-quality front camera.

Data storage memory:16 GB or 32 GB, not expandable.

Current software version:Apple iOS 4.02.

Wireless network:AT&T 3G.

App availability: Apple's App Store, with more than 225,000 apps.

The pitch: Biggest hardware revision of the iPhone since it debuted in 2007. Faster hardware, thinner design, high-resolution ‘Retina Display' screen, ability to shoot and edit HD video on the phone, new ‘FaceTime' video chat feature.

Physical design: Two panes of strong glass held together in a slim, sturdy package by a steel band around the edges that also doubles as a wireless service antenna.

Best feature: The phone's display is gorgeous, but its ecosystem of more than 250,000 apps is the real show-stopper.

Worst feature or bug: The now-infamous ‘Antennagate' scandal — in which wireless service can deteriorate if you hold a finger over a small gap in the metal antenna — proved that an attractive hardware change can go horribly wrong. The phone still drops calls even with Apple's bumper-or-case antenna solution. And it won't play Flash-based videos or games, unlike some of the Android phones with recent software updates.

Our take:Despite sentimental commercials from Apple, we're not convinced FaceTime video chatting will be a feature that everyone will want to use (for one thing, it requires iPhone 4s and Wi-Fi service on both ends). Still, the iPhone 4 is the most well-rounded and full-featured of the smart phones we've seen so far. If you use your phone as a mobile Internet device more than for voice calls, it's nearly perfect. It has the most intuitive, easiest-to-use software and the widest range of downloadable apps. However, if you are a frequent voice caller and find the occasional dropped call unacceptable, you might find Apple's device too frustrating.

Do You Think BlackBerry is Still Dominating the Smartphone Game?

So if you have been a fan of BerryReporter.com as long as I have been apart of the site you might know that I live in Pennsylvania. You might not know, however that I live very close to the 2nd largest shopping malls in America, the King of Prussia Mall. The King of Prussia mall has 2,500,000 square feet of retail space, 410 retail stores and sees over a million guests each month.

Today I was taking a little trip to the King of Prussia mall for a nice afternoon out. Some of you might not know, but I am a very big people watcher and being the BlackBerry addict that I am the first thing that always catches my attention is what phone people are using. Now these days considering that a lot of people see BlackBerry lacking what other Smartphones like Android and Apple devices have to offer, I was thinking that I wouldn’t see as many BlackBerry devices as I am use to seeing. However I was very surprised!

I saw a lot of people carrying BlackBerry devices. There seemed to be a lot of younger people carrying BlackBerry devices. This is a pretty good sign for RIM. It means that the consumer market that RIM has been trying to advertise to are getting the message. I also saw a lot of the middle age crowd rocking BlackBerry devices. I noticed a lot of BlackBerry Curve 8530′s,Bold 9000′s Bold 9700′s, Curve 8330′s, some Storm 1′s and some Storm2′s. I even notice a couple people rocking the BlackBerry Torch 9800. I have recently been thinking that Android is making a very big push in the SmartPhone game, but the more times I am out in public, I see more and more people using BlackBerry devices instead of Android or iPhones.

We all know that BlackBerry’s are great email devices and help keep you connected to the office at all times. However for those who think that is all BlackBerry has to offer, I think you need to watch the people around you when you are out in public. I don’t think every person i saw today was rocking a BlackBerry just so they don’t miss any emails. Us BlackBerry addicts know that BlackBerry has tons of things to offer to anyone, such as BlackBerry Messenger, a great media player, tons of apps, great web browser, and you can make a phone call with it.

Samsung Galaxy Tab CDMA tested in wild again; official accessories outed

http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/samsung_galaxy_tab_2-540x405.jpg

It’s starting to feel like everybody has a Samsung Galaxy Tab but us, though hopefully that will change shortly after IFA 2010 next week. The 7-inch slate has now shown up in Israel, complete with a CDMA radio, supposedly in the hands of a security app developer there. Meanwhile, details on the Samsung Galaxy Tab’s accessories have been spotted, including a QWERTY keyboard dock and Table Charging Station complete with HDMI connectivity.

According to the lucky app developer, the Samsung slate is fast and a serious iPad contender, with slick Flash playback on the Android 2.2 OS installed, together with strong audio performance (they had to use their own CDMA network equipment, since this seems to be a Galaxy Tab headed to the North American market and, from what we’ve heard, Verizon specifically). Only blot on the scorecard is GPS that is apparently sluggish initially, though after it locks it apparently works fine.

As for the accessories, an iPad-style carry case which doubles as a stand for watching videos will supposedly be €41 ($52), the Table Charging Station will be €54 ($69) and the 83-key keyboard dock will be €82 ($105). There are also various cables and adapters.

Hands On with the Amazon Kindle 3 e-Reader

Amazon Kindle 3 e-Reader

This morning I took (early) delivery of Amazon’s new Kindle 3 – I opted for the WiFi only version – a device that claims 50% better contrast than any other e-reader, a 21% smaller body while keeping the same 6″ size reading area, and a 20% increase in the speed of page turns. These are, of course, all very welcome improvements but specs alone don’t tell the real story of Kindle’s appeal and why it sets the benchmark for an e-reading experience. Instead, it’s Amazon’s decision to adopt a vertical model: controlling the hardware, software and, most controversially, content of the Kindle, that define the user experience. But first, let’s dive into the device itself.

The two most noticeable aspects of the Kindle’s hardware design are its size – it’s a lot smaller (and lighter) than pictures do it justice – and the print-like contrast levels of the latest iteration of E Ink, the technology that powers the device’s screen. In fact, upon unboxing the Kindle 3, a colleague attempted to peel off a second non-existent screen protector that housed instructions on how to charge the device. Only it was actually the screen itself, set to standby. E Ink, though gray scale only, is that good for what it’s designed for: reading the written word.

Amazon Kindle 3 Wi-Fi 3rd Generation Review (2010)

Amazon Kindle 3 Wi-Fi

If you have been waiting to justify the price for making the leap from paperback to e-ink – then the wait maybe over. Amazon’s third generation of the Kindle has just launched and not only is it more affordable than ever – it’s also damn adorable. The 3rd Generation Amazon Kindle form factor is smaller and slimmer than the previous Kindle models and now truly makes a great travel companion, whether you are relaxing on the beach or sitting in the subway.

Being a first time user of the Kindle I have to say I am quite smitten with it. Not only is it is easy to carry around with you, it’s also incredibly easy to read. Till now I had been reading books and magazines on the iPad but I could never really enjoy reading iBooks outside in the sun because the iPad’s display is almost unreadable in direct sunlight. However the Kindle Wi-Fi 3rd generation is a joy to read, whether it’s resting under the bright sun or in a dark room. The same goes for lounging. Where I used to cuddle up with the iPad, as sophisticated as the iPad is - it becomes unwieldy and too heavy for long reading periods. On the other hand, the new Kindle is super light in your hands and feels more along the line of a paperback book in terms of weight. The Kindle also has a new soft rubberized back which enables you to hold onto it with a more secure and comfortable grip than ever.

Conclusion:
So being a virgin to this whole crazy world of the Amazon Kindle I have to say I may actually enjoy its delectable delights. Not only is the Kindle Wi-Fi 3rd generation super adorable and a great travel companion, the battery life is impressive, it offers more storage space than ever, and you’ll actually be able to read it comfortably in bright sunlight without the issue of glare – unless the sun is really just beaming over your head and directly into your eyes. Overall, the Kindle continues to be a great device for those who love to read and want to carry something around that is portable – affordable – and won’t make you cry if you lose it or drop it.

I did find myself however at times touching the screen (force of habit) and maybe for future generations a touch screen surface will be included. The lack of color was also a bit disconcerting and so was the refresh issues when going from page to page of a book, as well as the lag between what is typed in versus what appears on the screen. But overall, the construction is solid for the price and minor improvements certainly add value.

For those who were discouraged by the Kindle’s previous generations’ price tags, this new pricing makes it more enticing than ever to finally get an ebook reader. At the end of the day – this latest Kindle has gotten some decent upgrades, a great price point, and is the perfect standalone device for those who love books. The only thing that might want to hold you back is the fact that many color ebook readers are finally starting to pop up, and we’re sure that within 6 months, the market will be saturated with them. That said, the Kindle has years of experience to build on and continues to remain a quality product with a large library of books to purchase, blogs, newspapers, and magazines to read. The Amazon Kindle Wi-Fi 3rd Generation – Graphite (2010) retails for $139 and the Amazon Kindle Free 3G + Wi-Fi 6″ (2010) retails for $189.

The Good: New smaller and slimmer size. New higher contrast display is better than ever, makes books super easy to read in any environment. WebKit browser is a nice touch. Now with a 4GB internal memory. One word – PRICE!

The Bad: Interface is a bit sluggish and not very fluid. Side buttons feel a bit cheap. Memory is not expandable and battery is sealed in device.

Clicker Unveils Mobile Apps for iPhone and Android

iPhone and Android

When we reviewed Clicker last November, we saw a Web service designed to help you either compliment or replace your existing television addiction with videos from around the Web. The service excels at aggregating video from other services and wrapping them up in an easy to browse and manage site with tools to help you stay on top of your favorite shows and share them with your friends.

Since then, the service has been busy adding more shows, more Web video sources, and more features to the site, and this week Clicker unveiled its iPhone and Android apps to help you manage your playlists on the go and even find new programs to watch from your mobile phone.

Clicker's new mobile apps allow you to log in and manage your Clicker account from your mobile phone and browse the Clicker database for video, movies, and TV shows you may be interested in watching. Clicker's database of video is still strong, featuring popular TV shows and programs from networks like PBS, Showtime, CBS, and HBO. You can also use the mobile apps to manage your Clicker playlist, adding and removing programs that you find from your phone without having to wait until you get to a computer.

The Clicker mobile apps also allow you to browse and view mobile-friendly video right there on your device, if it's supported. You can also keep up with what your friends in the Clicker network are watching, reviewing, and commenting on. The developers behind the Clicker apps claim that you'll be able to comment and discuss those shows in future versions of the apps, and share your comments with friends both at Clicker and on Facebook and Twitter.

You can also use the Clicker app to check-in to your favorite TV shows, making use of Clicker's FourSquare-like feature that's allows you to earn awards for watching your favorite shows, much like GetGlue and Miio. Both the iPhone and Android apps are free and available now in their respective App stores.

App Store Crosses 250,000 Apps

App Store Crosses

Apple’s App Store now holds more than a quarter million apps for download. More than 50,000 publishers are submitting more than 600 new apps every day.

At the time of this writing, there were 252,227 active apps available in Apple’s App Store, according to 148apps.biz. The total number of apps, including apps that are no longer available, stands at a stunning 301,923.

148apps.biz says that 17,424 apps have been submitted to the App Store this month alone and Apple typically approves apps with a delay of 6.8 days. The average app price is $2.91, the most popular category is books (43,759 apps), followed by games (36,646). According to 148apps.biz, there are currently 50,545 active publishers in the App Store.

The App Store opened on July 10, 2008 via an update to iTunes. One day later, the App Store held 500 apps, a number that grew to 10,000 by the end of that year. 50,000 was reached by mid 2009 and the 100,000 mark was crossed in early November 2009. More than 200,000 apps were available at the end of April. By June, more than 5 billion apps had been downloaded.

In comparison, Google’s Android Market currently holds about 75,000 apps and more than 1 billion apps have been downloaded.

Apple Dumps SurfaceInk For Selling Other Companies iPad Clones

Back in June, SurfaceInk made a splash for themselves by demonstrating a 12.1-inch Ubuntu-powered tablet, clearly positioned as a possible competitor against the iPad. Seems like that might have been a mistake: as it turns out, Apple was a SurfaceInk client, and let’s just say Cupertino wasn’t too peachy on the idea of doing business with a company in bed with the enemy.

According to SurfaceInk CEO Eric Bauswell, the two companies decided to part waysbecause of “Apple’s growing awareness of our turnkey capabilities.” SurfaceInk won’t say just what they did for Apple, but given the company’s engineering work for companies like Palm and HP, it’s easy to guess that they had some sort of hand in the iPad.

What really irked Apple, though, was SurfaceInk’s 12.1-inch prototype that used a Freescale i.MX51 800MHz Cortex A8 chipset, ready to sell the reference design to any company that wanted their own would-be iPad killer and claiming they could ship such a device out by Q1 2011.

Of course, what might seem like a mistake on SurfaceInk’s part in alienating a lucrative client may very well end up proving extraordinarily lucrative: there are a lot of electronics makers out there who are scrambling to get their pants back up after the iPad proverbially dropped them, unawares. There’s a lot of lucre to be made selling as many of those guys tablets to rebrand as possible.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Accessories

We are getting closer to the Samsung Galaxy Tab announcement at the IFA-2010 event and we have some official Samsung Galaxy Tab accessories that have popped up. Is this making us any more anxious about hearing all the details and when the release date is? Absolutely. You can see here…

that there is a leather bag/case, table charging station (with HDMI port), keyboard dock, USB cable adapter, and earphones. With the style of these accessories, it appears that Samsung is going after the iPad crowd somewhat. Until next week, keep your checkbooks and debit cards in your pocket, but who knows, it could be a lot sooner than later, that we are getting some 2.2 Froyo goodness on this 7 inch device. I know we are boiling with excitement.

Toshiba’s Android tablet to feature Tegra 250 processor, Folio 100 name?

Toshiba is jumping into the Android tablet market and is looking to wow the world with its froyo-powered offering. According to leaked information obtained by Notebook Italia, the Toshiba tablet is dropping the SmartPad name and is now rumored to be named the Folio 100, a moniker that is not to be confused with the now defunct Foleo subnotebook from Palm.

One of the standout rumored features of the Toshiba Folio is its Tegra 250 CPU, a dual core ARM Cortex A9 processor capable of running up to 1GHz. Similar to the iPad, the Folio is thought to feature a 10-inch, 1024×600 display, 16GB of onboard storage and the common trio of connectivity options including WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, and 3G.

To differentiate its offering from the iPad, the Folio is expected to eature a 1.3MP webcam for video calling and up to 32GB of removable storage. Available ports on the Toshiba tablet may include an HDMI port capable of 1080P output, a USB 2.0 port, and a USB 2.2 mini audio jack. Rounding out the leaked hardware specs are a 1020mAh battery capable of up to 7 hours of mixed usage and dimensions of 281 x 181 x 14mm. Software-wise, the Folio is expected to run the latest version of Android.

ViewSonic working on a dual-boot Android/Windows 7 tablet

ViewSonic
At CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW in Berlin Viewsonic has announced that they are working on Dual-boot Android/Windows 7 tablet and soon it will be available in market, a new tablet is named as Viewpad 7 and it is Android based tablet witch can Dual-boot with Windows 7.

The Viewpad 7 is a 7-inch tablet that we’re assuming will run Android “Gingerbread” as Viewsonic hasn’t given much away yet. What we do know is that it will have 3G and WiFi connectivity and both front and back-facing cameras so users can shoot pictures more easily from any angle.

The 10 inch model will certainly grab attention. We suspect that if ViewSonic do go for a dual-booting ViewPad 10 that the Android portion will be provided for quick access to the internet and email while the Windows portion will be for more in depth things like Outlook usage, Word and Office in general.
